Belonging to Norway’s Interstil Holding, upholstered-furniture manufacturer Hjellegjerde is re-organising its European business activities on 1 March 2013 under the direction of Christian Andreas Maurer, Managing Director of Hjellegjerde Europe. The new sales company’s headquarters will be the BBZ Building and Home-Furnishing Advice Centre in Lahr/Black Forest which, being so close to France, Switzerland and Austria, makes it the ideal geographical platform for realigning European activities.
The sales activities of Hjellegjerde Germany and Hjellegjerde France are being consolidated and regrouped under one umbrella for the target markets of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, BeNeLux and France. The aim behind the measure is to merge all marketing, sales and service activities, streamline management and establish faster and shorter decision-making channels. Apart from the long-time Customer Service manageress in France who will be moving to Lahr, an all-new team will be starting work on 1 March. No changes are being made to the long-standing sales partners in Germany, Switzerland, BeNeLux and France. A new sales manager needs to be appointed in Austria.
Besides accommodating the offices, Lahr-based BBZ, which sees itself as a central platform for all matters of building and home-furnishing, is also providing the space for installing a new showroom as well as a sizeable storage facility. BBZ’s conference rooms can also be used for retailer meetings, workshops and training activities. Christian Andreas Maurer: “The Building and Home-Furnishing Advice Centre provides ideal conditions for giving our retailers comprehensive and centralised support.”
New designs and functions are also bringing a breath of fresh air to the collections. Under the “Fjords” brand, which will continue to be selectively marketed, Hjellegjerde has plans for systematically developing and extending its collections of designs. Steps have already been taken in this direction. “Combining the classic lounge-chair style with upcycling a canvas sail, and from now on complementing the latest ‘Fjord’ collection, the ‘Spinnaker Chair’ shows”, says Christian Andreas Maurer, “that branding and product development will in future give greater consideration to the demands and expectations on design”. Interstil, which in 2012 took over Norwegian furniture maker Hødnebø and Norwegian bed manufacturer Wonderland, and Hjellegjerde will be presenting other new designs at the Stockholm Furniture Fair from 5 to 9 February. This will also provide the stage for relaunching the “Contura” collection from Norway’s iconic designer Svein Asbjørnsen. “Staging its world premiere is the new ‘Motionconcept’ with its unique form of design that permits an extremely broad and diverse range of creative options, soon making it possible for the first five models to be joined by further design variations”, says Christian Andreas Maurer describing Hjellegjerde’s exhibition line-up.
Soon after, the next event will then take place in March at Lahr where retailers will not only be introduced to the new team but also to a new studio concept based on shop-in-shop marketing.
